| Dengue and Zika Control

Due to global warming the incidence of Dengue has increased dramatically in recent decades. WHO currently estimates that 50–100 million dengue infections occur worldwide every year. There’re 120,836 cases with 336 deaths in 2015, Malaysia alone due to Dengue.

Zika virus (ZIKV) and Dengue virus are spread by Aedes mosquitoes, such as A. aegypti and albopictus. Zika virus is related to the dengue, yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, and West Nile viruses. From 2007 to 2016, the virus spread eastward, across the Pacific Ocean to the Americas, leading to the2015–16 Zika virus epidemic.

Zika can spread from a pregnant woman to her baby. This can result in microcephaly, severe brain malformations, and other birth defects. Zika infections in adults may result rarely in Guillain–Barré syndrome.
